Ruins of Alamparai Fort

The ruins of Alamparai Fort is located near a small village, Kadapakkam, 50 km from Pondicherry. It was built during the Mughal period (1526-1858). A hundred-meter-long quay extends along the sea. From here, salt, ghee  and silks embroidered with gold and silver left for export. Then the fort was given to Dupleix , for services rendered. In 1742 Dupleix became governor general of all the French settlements in India. Around 1760 the English destroyed a good part of the fort and the rest underwent the assaults of the tsunami of December 2004.
