Ruins of Alamparai Fort

Ruins of Alamparai Fort

The ruins of Alamparai Fort is located near a small village, Kadapakkam, 50 km from Pondicherry. It was built during the Mughal period (1526-1858). A hundred-meter-long quay extends along the sea. From here, salt, ghee  and silks embroidered with gold and silver left for export.

Then the fort was given to Dupleix , for services rendered. In 1742 Dupleix became governor general of all the French settlements in India. Around 1760 the English destroyed a good part of the fort and the rest underwent the assaults of the tsunami of December 2004.

Today it remains a romantic site, picnic place and Sunday walk where local fishermen embark the tourists for a small panoramic tour.

Beautiful sandy beaches absolutely deserted … very different from those of Mamallapuram where it is impossible to sit or lounging for more than five minutes without having around them sellers of small silk bags, kids who want to pass their shells to you All prices and the looks of all the men who pass.

Ancient TamilNadu – Alamparai Fort

I am back after a satisfying 235 Km road trip to Alamparai Fort in Kadapakkam village, almost 100 Km from Chennai (via East Coast Road). I simply loved the fort ruins and the lovely backwaters! From what i gathered, this brick and limestone fort was built by Nawab Dost Ali Khan (Nawab of the Carnatic…

Ruins of Alampara Fort

Exploring new places that too without making any plans, rather like a nomad is the most exciting relaxation. After almost a year in Chennai, we went on a ‘wild goose chase’, well a rather calculated chase I’d say, because we already had a planned destination, but not the route or stops.

Alamparai Fort, Kadappakkam, Kanchipuram

Alamparai fort is one of the least known historic places found on the southern outskirts of Chennai. It is around 100 kms away from Chennai through ECR Road and is very near to Pondicherry. The ruins of Alamparai Fort (also called Alampara) lie near Kadappakkam , a village 50 km from Mamallapuram on the land overlooking the sea.

Trip to the alamparai fort

I totally forgot to write about my trip to Alamparai fort, which is about 100 kms away from Chennai…Alamparai fort is situated near a place called Marakanam, on the way to Pondy. Its not actually on the main road, but you will have to go through lots of small, uncompacted so called roads.

ECR Ride – Alamparai and Pondy

“The journey is in itself a destination.” This quote was experienced first-hand yesterday. The ride through the ECR (East Coast Road) to Pondicherry which is about 130 odd kilometers may be a routine thing for many bikers in Chennai and a total of 300km ride in a day is definitely not a “Saddle Sore” ride.

Story of a ride to Alamparai fort

(A candid account of the ride on 25th morning to Alamparai Fort in Kadapakkam village near Cheyur in Tamilnadu as told my friend and co-rider, Jam. I am sure you’re going to enjoy this lucid narrative.

“Thambi thannila kuddhi pa….!!! Athan Lifejacket pottu irukala….!!! Thannila muzhigadamata….!!!!” (Jump into the water… You are wearing a life jacket… You wont drown) Yuvaraj the boatman screamed for the last time. Everyone else on the weekend sojourn were already in the water.

Alamparai fort is 100 kilometers from chennai and 50 kilometers from Pondicherry on ECR. For the moment

Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry instantly ring in your mind. Alamparai Fort does not. Closeted between these two more celebrated places it remains off the tourist map. Very few people even seem to be aware of it. The internet, the one- stop answer to everything is also less than its all knowing self in this case.

Gone with the wave…………

Recently, a relative who traveled to Puducherri , decided to drop by the Alamparai Fort on her way back to Chennai, having heard of the place from me sometime ago. But the report of her trip was dismal ! She sounded cheated ! And after seeing her pictures, I was dismayed too.
