The solar observatory in kodaikanal is owned and maintained by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. It is located 4 kms from Kodaikanal, at the southern most tip of the palani hills.
It is a very useful and knowledge feeding to the children. All the places are not accessible only the museum is accessible to the public and tourists.
The staffs who also turn up to be a good tutors, explains the theory of the solar system in a fascinating manner. Strict visit timings are followed here.
Though may not sound interesting to many, the science freaks can definitely pay a visit.

The Kodaikanal Observatory of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics is located in the beautiful Palani range of hills in Southern India. It was established in 1899 as a Solar Physics Observatory and all the activities of the Madras Observatory were shifted to Kodaikanal. They have a full-time staff of two scientists and nineteen technicians.
